Activities will encourage discourse among participants through plenary panels, interactive workshops, poster sessions on innovative research, and other educational and networking activities. Discussions will focus on the role of logistics in areas such as disaster response, health systems and food security.
Dr. Anne Schuchat, Principal Deputy Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to open 2016 HHL Conference. Anne Schuchat, M.D. has been at CDC since joining the Epidemic Intelligence Service in 1988. She was director of CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases from 2006-2015 and has worked in infectious diseases, immunization systems, global health and numerous emergency responses. She will share her experience on strengthening prevention, detection and response to global threats, from SARS and pandemic influenza to Ebola and Zika.
Michelle Nunn will be interviewed as a Keynote speaker on her leadership in Humanitarian Response efforts as the President and CEO of CARE USA. Nunn has spent 25 years in civic and public service, as a social entrepreneur, a nonprofit CEO and a candidate for U.S. Senate in Georgia. Michelle will share reflections on CARE's work fighting global poverty and providing lifesaving assistance in emergencies such as the Syrian refugee crisis, and ongoing turmoil in Yemen and Sudan, as well as disaster response efforts in places affecting by natural disasters due to El Niño.

Poster sessions will be held throughout the conference. Conference participants were invited to submit a one-page (300-word) abstract for poster presentation consideration. Click here to view a summary of the poster submissions along with their abstracts.

The aim of the conference is to provide an open forum to discuss the challenges and new solutions in disaster preparedness and response, long-term development and humanitarian aid, and global health delivery.
